Framed Fine Art Print of Ala Kul Lake and the Terskey Alatau Mountains (June 2018)

Ala-Kul, an alpine lake nestled among snow-capped peaks that stretch for as far as the eye can see.

This was taken from the Ala-Kul pass, on the fourth day of my five-day hike around the Terskey Alatau/ Ala-Too mountain range in Kyrgyzstan. It had been a long way up from the edge of the lake to the snow covered mountain pass. Fortunately the weather was lovely enough for me to catch a break and have a hot cup of tea. According to a couple I met who attempted to reach the lake just a day before, it was a different world just 24 hours earlier. With rain lashing and winds hurling across the empty, frozen lake, they almost gave up what they had came all the way to see. There are camping spots next to the lake, but hardly ideal in those conditions. Fortunately, they decided to camp out at a lower altitude and complete the pass on the same day as I did.
